Hearing # 2020-PC-11
What are the priorities for Elizabethtown? We’ve collected your ideas for Elizabethtown and synthesized all of the feedback collected to date to create a draft vision statement, goals and objectives for the City. Take this fifteen minute survey to share your feedback on the plan elements and identify priorities for the City.
Since the public meeting in August, the Steering Committee, City staff, and consultants have been working to shape the ideas and issues that were voiced by the community into a vision and set of goals which will guide the City’s growth into the future. These are based on input from the public meeting, online survey, mobile display board, meetings-in-a-box , online comments, youth engagement, and steering committee meetings.
Based on community input, four main themes were identified: Sustainable Growth, A Strong Legacy, Healthy Lifestyles, and Active Commerce. These themes were broken down into goals which will work to bolster Elizabethtown’s challenged areas and further reinforce the city’s strengths.
These goals and objectives are not yet set in stone. Public input is important throughout all stages of the comprehensive planning process, which means you can help shape and refine Elizabethtown’s goals for the future. After reading though the Themes, Vision Statement, and Goals below, please let us know your comments on what you like, dislike, or think needs to be a priority! Your input is needed to help ensure this plan is the best fit for the future of Elizabethtown! Comments can be submitted on the Contact Us tab, contacting Jim Shaw at Elizabethtown Planning & Development, or attending the November 21st Public Open House.
Help craft Elizabethtown’s future at a second public workshop on November 21st.
Elizabethtown KY – The City will be hosting its second public workshop for Envision Elizabethtown 2040 on November 21st from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the WesBanco Gallery next to the State Theater (209 W. Dixie Ave.). This public workshop will be occurring during the second phase of the planning process and will present the draft vision statement, overarching goals, and various objectives and recommendations for the next twenty years. The City needs your help to provide feedback and prioritize the plan’s recommendations. The workshop will be an informal open house allowing participants to come and go as they like.
“We had great attendance at our last public meeting and saw a lot of creative ideas. We hope to see another good turnout for this second meeting. All ages are invited to attend, and the style of workshop is an open house format where you can stop by for a short period at any point during the meeting,” said Mayor Jeff Gregory.
Similar to the initial public workshop, at the conclusion of this second public workshop the City will launch another online survey to further capture ideas and feedback from community members who are not able to attend.
This public workshop follows intensive community engagement for the first phase of the plan that included a public visioning workshop, online survey, focus group meetings, youth activities, interactive mobile display, meeting in a box, and other online outreach. Following the open house and an online survey, the final phase of the planning process will begin. It will include public review of the draft plan before it is finalized. The plan is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2020.

The City of Elizabethtown invites you to attend a Public Visioning Workshop for the Envision Elizabethtown 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
Elizabethtown, KY – The City will be hosting a public visioning workshop on July 18th from 4:00 -6:00 pm at the Pritchard Community Center (404 S. Mulberry St.) that will serve as the first opportunity to provide input for the Envision Elizabethtown 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The goal of this plan is to articulate a vision for the future of Elizabethtown and identify long-range goals and objectives related to various community elements such as land use, transportation, utility infrastructure, economic development, quality of life, housing, parks, and more. The comprehensive plan will be developed in the coming months through ideas and feedback from the community, an existing conditions analysis, and professional direction.
The City has hired consultants Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group, HDR, and EHI Consultants to facilitate the planning process for the plan, which will include several methods for community engagement. These opportunities include a project website, online survey, pop-up public input display, meeting in a box that can be checked out by local groups, focus group meetings, youth engagement, and a second public workshop and online survey to be held later in the process.
The visioning workshop on July 18th will be set-up as an open house, where participants can show up at any point during the allotted time-frame and stay as long as they are able. “We hope to get as many residents, business and property owners, and other interested parties involved as possible. This is a family-friendly workshop, so all ages are welcome. We are looking forward to everyone’s participation,” stated Mayor Jeff Gregory.
“After the plan is completed and officially adopted next year, we will immediately start the ‘hard’ part of comprehensive planning, which is implementation. Our goal is to create a big vision that encourages our leaders and partners to put the plan’s ideas into action,” said Jim Shaw, Director of Planning and Development.
At the conclusion of the first public workshop, the City will launch the first online survey to further capture ideas and feedback from community members who are not able to attend.
